Two Moons

Sometimes I wonder if the moons we see are the same. You once told me that the moon you saw was one of love, one filled with romance, one filled with security. But I didn't tell you this: I thought the moon was lifeless place.

I guess the moon in Venus is different from the moon in Mars.

Life. It's all about perspective. I read once that "humans being are wired so that what we are looking for, we will see."

If we believe the world is a twisted, evil place, we're going to look for more reasons to point out why it is so. And we ARE going to find it, if that's what we're looking for. All we'll see is the heartbreak. The wars. Killing. Anguish. Divorces. Famine. Despair.

But those who look for the good things in life - IN SPITE OF (not in blissful ignorance of) the brokenness of this fallen world... Who look for hope, joy, peace, faith... Guess what? That's exactly what they'll find.

Just observe any two friends who grew up in the same neighborhood, went to the same school... and where they end up later in life. One could be a highly successful person and the other struggling with family life, debt, and so on.

This is not to say that we should only look at the bright side of life and think about ice-cream and ponies and rainbows all the time because the fact is that no matter how we see things, we ARE going to face problems ad obstacles and struggles.

I think the vital difference is that we have the CHOICE. To see beyond the pain, the struggles, the heartache, the mistakes... and see a work in progress. Something imperfect and broken, but something in the process of being restored and that will one day be completely perfected. Something in the midst of change. Something to learn a lesson from.

A friend of mine once said: "This life is so beautiful. So difficult, but so beautiful. But life is what we make it."

How we see things, it's always a choice. It's the most important choice because how we see things will affect everything we do. :)
